SQL Server Installation

Front2Bax requires a Microsoft SQL Server database. If you don't already have one, follow our guided installation steps.

We recommend **SQL Server 2019 Express**, which is free and perfect for Front2Bax. For older SQL Server versions, please visit our SQL Installation page.

Installation Steps

  • Download SQL Server Express from Microsoft.
  • Run the basic/custom installation.
  • Set authentication to "Mixed Mode".
  • Note the Instance Name (usually SQLEXPRESS).

Yes — you’ll need your own Service User Number (SUN) to use Front2Bax. We work exclusively with organisations that hold a SUN, as this ensures you are authorised to submit Bacs payments directly. If you already have a SUN, you’re ready to go. If you’re unsure about your status or how to obtain one, our team is always happy to point you in the right direction.
How can I access Front2Bax?
Front2Bax is a purely on-premise software solution, installed directly onto your systems. For many organisations, this provides greater control, security and peace of mind compared to cloud-based alternatives. Your payment data remains within your own IT environment, under your own security policies and infrastructure — with no reliance on third-party hosting platforms.
What is your onboarding process?
Our onboarding process is straightforward and efficient. We’ll schedule a call at a convenient time to download and install Front2Bax onto your system. Can I use Front2Bax as a disaster recovery solution?
Absolutely. Many bureaux and payroll providers use Front2Bax specifically as a disaster recovery solution. Because it’s on-premise, you maintain full control over installation and access, making it a reliable backup option should your primary system be unavailable.
Will my payment file format work with Front2Bax?
Front2Bax can process transactions from any accounting system capable of producing an ASCII file. It also accepts files created in Excel or even simple text files from Notepad, giving you complete flexibility in how you generate your payment data.
